Documentation, Diapers & Schoolhouse Rock

I was wondering how I was going to turn in some of my first homeschooling documentation and the answer came to me in two email blogs.

I received a blog about a calendar for next year from 2 Dynamic Mom's Homeschooling Adventures that I am using to "plan" days for next year.

When I was looking at their website and found this for the attendance sheet (#2).  I love that I can keep both boys on one page and have all the "little codes" for other things we do.

To summarize all we have done I am using the trimester from Ladybug's Teacher Files, one for each boy.

Now, to see what else I need to send in.

On a different note, I just had to share these cute little diaper babies I made for a friends diaper baby shower.  No one else had made anything "crafty" out of the diapers so these were a BIG hit.  I found how to do it here, but just tucked my cloth in the back & it stayed.  Plus I rolled the socks from the inside out.  I made the "bed" for the babies in the basket with all the other diapers.

When I left to go to the party (in the early afternoon), I let the boys watch a dvd, Schoolhouse Rock.  Well, Fireball Coyote has been watching it ALL afternoon and evening!  He even has certain ones he repeats with eyes shining, grinning & bopping around at times too.  Pumpkin has also been enjoying it, but I think the repetition is getting to him, lol.
Notice the remote by his head.

Character Building

You are in a grocery store, look down and see

What do you do?!?

Did I mention you are also ten years old?

So what do you do?

Let me just say we DID look around to see if anyone looked like they had lost money.

No one at the check outs or the isles around us.

So I casually bent down and picked it up.

Next came:

"I have never found so much!"
"I don't know what to do."
"I feel sorry for lost it."

the comments from
a ten year old.

Then
he said it.

"I think we should donate all of it."
(A shocked & proud mom here.)

"I think."

"I don't know."

"I'm confused."

"What does it say in the Bible?"
(Mom proud here.)

We talked about what it says in the Bible and his final decision was to give 1/4 to God at VBS next week.  Then save 1/4 and spend 1/2 on 2 new fish from Walmart.

A Red Finned Rainbow Shark
and an algae eater.

WOW!

Duke Energy, Triangles, & Ice Cream

On Tuesday, we met some friends at the  Duke Energy Visiter Center and listened to John Fowler, an Appalachain singer and story teller.
The boys loved his stories and music.
Then we went on an indoor walking tour of how the plant worked and different energy types.

Making atom fission.

How the nuclear plant makes electricity.

A touch screen to tell you about the different parts of the plant.

A "quiz" to see what you know & how you feel they are doing.

They received a nice "goodie bag' of free treats.
(Postcards, Frisbee, pencils, calendars, cup/ can koozies.)

The Butterfly Garden between the World of Energy and the Power Plant .

Later in the night is one of the last baseball games.
Then the award & pizza party.

On Wednesday the boys have been BIG into Clever-dragon.com and the lineup with PBS Kids on TV. (Which is what they did all day Monday.)

Also, on Wednesday, Pumpkin wanted to give me a "triangle paper folding lesson".  After we did that, I showed him how we folded it to pass note in the hall and "play football".
With this in mind, I brought out my Montessori triangle boxes.

Pumpkin made some angles: obtuse and acute.
Fireball Coyote took the rest of my boxes and made Delta fleets.

Today, Thursday, we had a homeschooler field trip to
Bruster's Ice Cream to see how it is made.

Getting ready.
Fireball Coyote adding some chocolate covered Pop Rocks
 into the cotton-candy flavored ice-cream

YUM!!!
Afterwards we went the local library and the boys ...
did the educational games in their system.
(Meanwhile, I got out book about America to read later ;-)  )

Bugs & Fishes

On Friday, May 25th, we played smack a sight word bug game.

On Sunday night and Monday, May 26th & 27th, we went fishing.

Pumpkin caught a catfish off the top!

"See my fish!"

Pumpkin also caught bass.

"I caught a bass too!"

A great place for reflection shots.

Then the boys became fishes themselves this week,
with swim lessons.
